Official practice resources

Official samples and free NBME resources

Start with the source. This directory separates publicly available samples, paid self-assessments and independent question-bank practice.

Official USMLE sample materials

USMLE publishes sample questions and interactive practice links for each Step. Open the official pages below so you can choose the current software and materials. A public sample PDF is not permission for unrestricted redistribution.

NBME’s free interface sample

NBME’s interface announcement ↗ identifies a free Sample Assessment containing a tutorial and 12 sample questions, available through its examinee portal. It is a way to become familiar with that interface, not a free full-length scored NBME self-assessment.

Check the announcement and portal for current access instructions. This resource description was checked on November 6, 2026; availability and interfaces can change.

Paid NBME self-assessments are a different product

NBME’s comprehensive self-assessments are purchased through its own service. For example, the Comprehensive Basic Science Self-Assessment page ↗ describes its purchase and reporting options. Use NBME’s self-assessment overview ↗ to choose the relevant product and confirm current conditions.

“Free NBME resources” on this page does not mean that paid forms, exam registrations or test-center practice sessions are free. No paid assessment is being sold or unlocked by this directory.

Where FreeUSMLE fits

FreeUSMLE is an independent place to practice questions in Tutor or Test mode. Supplied examination-related material, source explanations and separately labeled AI-assisted original practice are not interchangeable with an official NBME product.

We do not claim affiliation, permission for every supplied item, authenticity of every source label or an official score prediction. Read the source and copyright notice. Choose how to use the free question bank if you want a practice block alongside the official materials.

Independent educational practice. Not affiliated with or endorsed by USMLE or NBME. Source attribution does not establish publication rights. See our Medical & AI notice and Sources & copyright policy.
